NDA & NA Entrance Exam Guide
A practical guide to the UPSC National Defence Academy and Naval Academy Examination for students who want to become officers in the Indian Armed Forces.
What is NDA & NA?
The National Defence Academy and Naval Academy Examination is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for admission to officer-training pathways of the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force through the National Defence Academy, and to the 10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme of the Indian Naval Academy.
Eligibility for NDA & NA
Eligibility is notification-specific. The latest published detailed UPSC notice used for this guide requires candidates to satisfy nationality, age, marital-status, educational and service-specific conditions.
Indian citizens and certain other categories specified by UPSC may be eligible, subject to the conditions in the notification.
UPSC fixes an exact date-of-birth window for each examination. Do not calculate eligibility from a generic age range; use the DOB window printed in the current notice.
The detailed NDA notice specifies unmarried male/female candidates for the eligible age group.
For Army Wing, 12th class pass or appearing is required. For Air Force, Navy and Naval Academy, 12th with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics is required, subject to the current notification.

Strengthen Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, English and core general-knowledge concepts.
Break the syllabus into weekly targets and maintain a revision notebook for formulas, facts and mistakes.
Use official UPSC question papers to understand difficulty, recurring concepts and time pressure.
Regular full-length practice is essential because both written papers are time-bound objective tests.
Follow major national and international events, defence developments, geography, science and history.
Work on communication, confidence, teamwork, reasoning, leadership, fitness and genuine self-awareness rather than memorised answers.
