Understanding Society: India and Beyond is the new NCERT Social Science textbook for Grade 9, introduced for the academic session 2026–27. Published by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), this book presents Social Science as an interconnected study of society, people, places, institutions, resources, governance and economic life.

Unlike the earlier arrangement of separate textbooks for History, Geography, Political Science and Economics, this integrated textbook connects these disciplines to help students understand how different aspects of society influence one another.
